Sandy Crews was the 3rd in command of VF-6, serving as the Operations officer.
He had previous combat experience with the "Cactus Air Force" flying the F4F Wildcat, from
Henderson Field as they defended Guadalcanal.
He was a fine fighter pilot, a good leader and contributed much to the moral and spiritual fiber
of the squadron.
He was the leader of the 12 plane flight that was temporarily assigned to the USS Belleau Wood CVL-24, before he was reassigned and becoming the Commanding Officer of
his own squadron.
In later years Sandy was associated with the University of Florida at Tallahassee.
