Henry A. "Al" Fairbanks

Henry A. "Al" Fairbanks

Henry A "Al" Fairbanks was also a seasoned combat pilot, having flown from the Old USS Wasp (CV-7) and U.S.S. Hornet (CV-8).

He was in the fighter squadron that made the trip to Tokyo and watched the famous Doolittle B-25 raiders take off from the Hornet for their raid on Japan.

He was involved in the Battle of Coral Sea and flew raids over Bougainville and other enemy strongholds.

"Al" was not only a good pilot but he brought to the squadron a repertoire of good music and emerged (by popular demand) as one of several squadron song leaders.

He and others like Cliff Seaver contributed much to the morale and fun that was to be had while off duty and during leisure moments.

Al participating in the VF-6 Memorial Christmas Party for Butch at the Hoogs home on Maui. He was also a part of that 21 plane memorial flight of Hellcats back to Barber's Point on Dec 26, 1943

After the war "Al" made his home near Stockton, CA were he raised a family and became an almond farmer.
